WinRAR is a competing product to WinZip; both products compress/decompress and archive files. Files compressed with WinRAR typically have the .rar extension, as opposed to .zip for WinZip archives. WinRAR can also create and decompress a WinZip archived file.
WinRAR supports the following features:
1.Complete support for RAR and ZIP archives, and unpacking of ARJ, LZH, TAR, GZ, ACE, UUE, BZ2, JAR, ISO, EXE, 7z and Z archives. Future versions of WinRAR are planned to include 7z creation.
2.The ability to create self-extracting and multi-volume (split) archives.
3.Data redundancy is provided via recovery records and recovery volumes, allowing reconstruction of damaged archives.
4.Support for advanced NTFS file system options and Unicode in file names.
5.Optional archive encryption using AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) with a 128-bit key.
WinZip is a Windows-based program that allows you to compress files and to open compressed files in .zip format. WinZip also has built-in support for most popular file compression and archive formats, including .gzip, BinHex (.hqx), cabinet (.cab), Unix compress, and tar. WinZip can also open the more seldom used ARJ, LZH, and ARC file formats, but requires external programs to do so.

follow the instructions on that site. Note the name and the location of the downloaded file.
2. Once the download is complete, open Windows Explorer and navigate to the folder on your hard drive where you saved the file. Double-click the downloaded file. After a dialog box opens, click Setup.
3. Another dialog box will appear and ask you where to install WinZip; the default location is c:\Program Files\WinZip. Choose where to install the program, and then click OK. The Installation Wizard will start.
4. Clicking Next will bring up a dialog box prompting you to accept or decline the terms of the license agreement. If you accept the terms, click Yes. 5. During the installation, you will be asked to choose between various options, many of which depend on your personal preferences. When in doubt, select the default or recommended option(s).
